Government has introduced a Sustainable Agriculture Finance Facility (SAFF) aimed at providing the much needed finance to producers in the maize value chain beginning with the 2023/2024 agricultural season.
The credit facility introduced is in line with the 2021-2026 UPND Party Manifesto which seeks to provide ease access to, and ensure availability of low-cost finance to farmers and other stakeholders.
Speaking at the official launch of the Ministry of Agriculture Strategic Plan 2022-2026, Acting Minister of Agriculture Makozo Chikote said the credit facility will soon be extended to other value chains which are of great importance to the development of the sector and growth of Zambia's economy.
Mr. Chikote said the 2022-2026 Strategic Plan will help consolidate the Ministry's efforts in delivering quality agricultural services to the public.
He said the plan will also ensure improved coordination of the Ministry's programs in order to promote a smart and value centred Ministry that efficiently utilizes the resources at its disposal.
The Minister further stated that the plan has established a set of core values for all employees to embrace while executing their mandate and performing their respective duties.
He urged officers in the Ministry to always uphold the principles of integrity, transparency, accountability, team work and impartiality as they discharge their official duties.
