ZCSA destroys non-compliant products valued at over K900, 000

The Zambia Compulsory Standards Agency (ZCSA) has today disposed of an assortment of non-compliant products valued at K903, 930.

ZCSA Head of Communications Brian Hatyoka said the non-compliant products are sockets, adaptors, Top Plugs, shoe polish, rubber condoms, incandescent bulbs, electric cables, gear oil, used undergarments and household electrical and similar appliances.

Mr Hatyoka said others are clear beer, biscuits, peanut butter, edible oil, opaque beer, mealie meal, jams and marmalades, wheat flour, animal feed, bottled water and fruit flavoured drinks, among others.

"These non-compliant products were seized in Lusaka during market surveillance inspections, for not complying with relevant compulsory standards. The disposal of non-compliant products is in line with the provisions of the Compulsory Standards Act No. 3 of 2017," Mr Hatyoka said.

He has since warned of stern action against entities which are either manufacturing or importing and supplying products on the market in contravention of applicable compulsory standards.

He added that this is because such products may pose a risk to public safety, health and the environment.

Mr Hatyoka said the Agency will continue conducting enforcement activities in a bid to ensure that only safe products are allowed on the market.

"Consumers are also urged to buy products from reputable sources and report any suspicious product to the nearest Agency office," He noted.
