Speaking at the media training workshop ahead of the upcoming working session titled, Empowering Women Against Sextortion: A campaign for International Women's in Lusaka, Dr Sikazwe said the issues of sextortion are not spoken about despite them being rampant.

She said it is a pervasive, yet under reported phenomenon that affects the safety as well as the physical and emotional wellbeing of people particularly women and children in Zambia.

Dr Sikazwe said sextortion is happening in homes, schools, institutions of higher learning, work places and in communities. Dr Sikazwe said the media is an important tool of disseminating information and can help raise awareness on the issues of sextortion.

Dr Sikazwe noted that the media has a role to play in educating the public about sextortion, its prevalence and the various tactics used by perpetrators.

She further said the media has to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to identify, expose perpetrators as well as bring them to justice.

Dr Sikazwe said the media coverage empowers victims by sharing their stories, reducing stigma and encouraging others to come forward.
