The Lusaka City Council-LCC has recently received media
reports of certain butcheries within the city allegedly using unknown chemicals
to preserve their meat products amidst the prolonged hours of loadshedding.
LCC Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba said the alarming
issue has raised serious concerns about the safety and quality of meat being
sold to consumers in Lusaka.
Ms Mwamba said LCC is
taking the reports very seriously and has launched an immediate investigation
into the matter.
“The Council is taking these reports very seriously and has

ensure the health and well-being of our residents by maintaining strict
standards for food safety and hygiene,”Ms Mwamba said.
She stated that the Local Authority has always been
conducting meat inspections and will enhance sampling of meat for chemical
analΓ½sis in view of the allegations.
Ms Mwamba has urged all butchery owners and operators to
adhere to the regulations set forth by the City Council and to prioritize the
safety of their customers.
“We strongly urge all butchery owners and operators to

safety of their customers. The use of any unauthorized chemicals or substances
in the preservation of meat products is not only illegal but also poses a
serious risk to public health,”She noted.
She has encouraged consumers to be vigilant and cautious
when purchasing meat products from local butcheries.
“If you suspect any irregularities or have concerns about
the quality of meat being sold, please report to the Lusaka City Council - LCC
immediately,”She said
She added that the Local authority is committed to working
closely with relevant authorities and stakeholders to address this issue
swiftly and effectively.
She said LCC will not tolerate any actions that compromise
the safety and well-being of our residents.
