GOVERNMENT SAYS IT IS READY TO SUPPORT SCIENTIST,ENGINEERS AND INDUSTRY EXPERTS


 The government says it is ready to support scientists, engineers, and industry experts in the provision of legal metrology, as well as technical support services to the nation.

Speaking at the commemoration of the World metrology Day in Lusaka on Monday under the theme Sustainability " indeed "We measure today for sustainable Tomorrow" Hon Mulenga explained that government strongly believes that through accurate measurement, scientific innovation and collaborative efforts, in return build a more resilient and sustainable future for generations to come.

He said accurate measurements of water quantity and quality is essential for efficient water distribution and conservation including pollution control.

"By ensuring precise measurements in water management processes we can optimize usage, reduce waste and mitigate the impact of drought on both people and the environment,"Hon Mulenga said.

Speaking earlier The Zambia Metrology Agency - ZMA Board Chairperson Musumala Josiah Nyirongo says metrology plays a pivotal role in shaping a sustainable future, ranging from environmental conservation to economic prosperity and social equity.

Mr. Nyirongo noted that metrology serves as a compass, which provides accurate measurements essential for monitoring and mitigating the impacts of climate change, pollution, and resource depletions.

He further says that metrology is indispensable in fostering economic sustainability by facilitating fair trade practices, ensuring product quality and promoting innovation.

"Weather it is measuring greenhouse gas emissions, monitoring water quality, or indeed assessing biodiversity, metrology equips us with the data necessary to make informed decisions that safe guard our planet's ecological balance", he explained.



And speaking at the same event, ZMA Executive Director Humphrey Nkobeni notes that sustainability is not merely a catch word, but a call to action, a commitment to safe guard the planet, it's resources for future generations.

"It encompasses environmental, social, and economic dimensions, requiring holistic solutions and collaborative efforts from all sectors of society", he said.

Mr. Nkobeni has observed that metrology enables the Agency to quantify impact on the environment, identify areas of improvement and track progress over time.

"By establishing rigorous measurement frameworks and standards, metrology empowers businesses, government agencies, as well as individuals to reduce waste, minimize pollution, and optimize resource use", he added.
