TECHNOLOGY AND SCIENCE MINISTER BREAKS GROUND FOR ZAMBIA'S FIRST EVER POLYTECHNIC WHICH WILL BE FULLY DIGITAL


 

Technology and Science Minister Hon. Felix Mutati has broken the ground for the construction of Zambia's first ever Polytechnic which will be built at the cost of $2.5 million and will offer all lessons digitally. 

The Chapula Polytechnic in Lufwanyama District, is expected to be constructed over three years and will offer certificates, diplomas and degrees in mineral and agricultural courses. 

Speaking when he broke the ground in Lufwanyama District this afternoon, Mr. Mutati said the Chapula Polytechnic will be paperless and will offer all lessons through digital means.

Mr. Mutati said government has partnered with Kagem Mining Limited to construct the first ever Polytechnic in the country in an effort to answer to the challenge of lack of job opportunities.

"Working with a world class gemstones mine Kagem, we want to build a world class Polytechnic which will offer world class lessons in digital format," said Mr. Mutati.

He said the Polytechnic will also create business opportunities to the locals once the institution is fully operational.

"We are in the process of amending the TEVET Act so that we build Polytechnics across the country. We want Polytechnics to be the new normal in the education system in the country," he said.




And Kagem Mining Board Chairman Dr. Sixtus Mulenga said the mine decided to fund the construction of the Chapula Polytechnic in order to offer skills to the people of Lufwanyama and beyond. 

Dr. Mulenga said once completed, the Polytechnic will also enhance trade and commerce in the region as most graduates will be involved in entrepreneurship. 

"The construction of Chapula Polytechnic speaks to the shared vision of Kagem Mine and the Zambian government to enable local people gain skills and improve livelihoods," said Dr. Mulenga. 

Meanwhile, Chief Lumpuma of the Lamba people of Lufwanyama District has urged Kagem Mine to complete the construction of the Chapula Polytechnic on time so that youths can access it's services. 

Chief Lumpuma said local people in the area must protect and guard the facility jealously so that future generations can also benefit from it. 

And Lufwanyama Member of Parliament Kenny Siachisumo said the construction of the Chapula Polytechnic will bring development to the eastern side of Lufwanyama District which lacks in many areas.

Mr. Siachisumo said Lufwanyama will never be the same with the coming of the institution.
