GOVERNMENT SAYS IT RECOGNIZES THE CHALLENGES BEEN FACED BY THE MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY

 

The government says it recognizes the challenges faced by the industry manufacturing industry such as lack of access to finance and limited market access.

Speaking during the Proudly Zambian Campaign Expo held under the Theme "Zambia @60: Building competition, Resilience and sustainability in manufacturing" Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce,Trade and Industry Mrs Lillian Bwalya said government has identified the proudly Zambian Campaign as one of the solutions to hurdles saying to facilitate for effective implementation, government is working towards the passing of the mining local content Act.

Mrs Bwalya noted that the government is committed to creating an enabling environment for the local businesses to thrive which includes improving access to finance, providing capacity building programmes, and fostering a culture of entrepreneurship among women and the youths.


Speaking earlier Proudly Zambian Campaign Chairperson Kim Otteby said there is need to recognize the importance of supporting local industries by prioritizing Zambian made products so as to contribute to job creation,skills development and the overall prosperity of the nation.

She said the resilient and self-sustaining economy begins with them by embracing and promoting what is proudly Zambian.


Meanwhile Zambia Association of Manufactures President Ashu Sagar said by choosing Zambian made goods the country reduces its dependency on imports and promotes the growth of local businesses saying they foster innovation and build a competitive edge in the global market.

He said the association is committed to advocating for policies that empower the manufacturers, building capacity and ensuring access to the resources needed for growth.
