Agroecology Coalition Senior Advisor Dr. Emile Frison has called on African governments to consider banning the use of chemicals when growing crops.
Speaking on the sidelines of COP 28 in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates today, Dr. Frison said the use of chemicals such as fertilizer in Africa has contributed to land degradation.
He said growing crops using chemicals has contributed greatly to global green house gas emissions, while at the same time contribute to environmental pollution and scarcity of water resources.
He said the World need to adopt agroecology in all the process of crop growing up to crop processing.
Dr. Frison said applying agroecology principle will contribute to improving gender equality making agriculture more attractive for the youth and therefore creating more income.
He said that agroecology promote sustainable solution to the issues of food security and nutrition. COP 28 commenced on 30th November and will come to an end on 12th December 2023.
