Ministry of Health Spokesperson Dr Kalangwa Kalangwa has disclosed that as of 25th March 2024, the ministry had initiated 652 people with injectable prep.
Speaking at the media science
CAFE in Lusaka, Dr Kalangwa said in Kitwe 319 were screened as of 25th March
2024 of which 164 were females and 135 were males and in Mazabuka 51 were
female and 3 were males as for Lusaka 19 were female and 21 were males.
He said Kitwe had 190
initiations of which 109 were moving from oral prep to injectable prep and in
Mazabuka the ministry had 42 clients of which 12 were switching from oral prep
to injectable prep.
And Treatment Advocacy Literacy
Campaign Prevention Officer Chilufya Hampongo said CSOs are working to generate
demand for injectable prep by promoting its availability, accessibility and
benefits through targeted outreach.
MEANWHILE a 28-year-old
woman of Misisi compound by the name of Charity Nakazwe who is on prep has
welcomed the newly launched injectable cabotegravir PrEP saying it is a relief
for individuals such as her with challenges with adherence to oral PrEP.
She
said there is need for government and other partners to start advocating and
promoting injectable cabotegravir PrEP.
