CSOs PLEDGE TO UNITE AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE*

Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in the environmental sector have committed to working together as a cohesive force in the fight against climate change.

The commitment emerged during a National Learning Workshop held in Lusaka under the initiative “Strengthening Civil Society Voices for Climate Advocacy in Zambia,” organized by the Centre for Environment Justice (CEJ) with support from the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF).

Zambian Empowerment Hub for Entrepreneurship and Skills Training (ZEHEST) Executive Director Clarence Muzyamba, emphasized the need for CSOs to collaborate through the Zambia Climate Change Network (ZCCN) due to the knowledge-intensive nature of the sector.

“Environmental protection discussions in Zambia are incomplete without acknowledging CEJ’s contributions. We appreciate CEJ’s efforts in imparting knowledge to various communities. Through this workshop, we aim to unite and address the impacts of climate change collectively. Working in isolation may not yield tangible results, but with a willing heart and humility, we can learn and make a difference," he stated.

Meanwhile, Engineer Gabriel Mukuka, Project Coordinator of “Strengthening Civil Society Voices for Climate Advocacy in Zambia,” highlighted progress made in empowering civil society organizations across the five districts of Luangwa, Rufunsa, Chongwe, Lusaka, and Chirundu.

Despite the achievements, he emphasized the ongoing need for collaboration, advocacy, and innovation to tackle the urgent challenges posed by climate change.

And Project Consultant Laura Nkhuwa said the workshop was important in understanding the Government's priorities, the National Adaptation Plan and the Nationally Determined Contributions - NDCs.
