Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba says Zambia remains steadfast in ensuring that measures to prevent conflict in any part of the world are supported and implemented in accordance with the United Nations mandate.
Delivering a statement at the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS) held at UN Headquarters in New York, Mr Musamba said there can be no sustainable development without peace and no peace without sustainable development.
“Therefore, the role of the police must be supported in all aspects to create a favourable environment for them to establish frameworks and pillars of rule of law for the safety of people and property,” he said.
Mr Musamba said conflict prevention today was more important than ever due to several resurgences in violent conflict across the world and a marked increase in the number of armed conflicts.
The Summit was held under the theme, “The role of UN Police in preventing conflict and violence and sustaining peace”. It is the largest platform globally for senior police leaders who gather to discuss the strengthening of global security and address cross-border threats through the unifying power of national UN policing.
This is contained in a statement made available to the media by First Secretary Press and Public Relations at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Zambia to the United Nations Namatama Njekwa.
