LABOUR AND SOCIAL SECURITY MINISTRY LAUNCHES THE DIGITAL AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

 



LABOUR and Social Security Minister Brenda Tambatamba has disclosed that since the launch of the Zambia employment and labour management information system (ZELMIS) which was streamlined to manage employment and related data it had so far recorded over 100 cases.

 Ms Tambatamba said the ministry was also implementing the citizen support portal, a comprehensive digital platform developed in collaboration with the smart Zambia institute.

 She said the initiative aimed at enhancing citizen engagement by providing a user-friendly interface for accessing vital services and information on employment, occupational safety and health and social security.

 Speaking during the launch of the digital awareness campaign in Lusaka yesterday, Ms Tambatamba said through the portal, individuals were empowered to easily submit inquiries and receive assistance from the ministry, thereby improving overall service delivery.

 Ms Tambatamba said the ministry had received a total of 238 cases out of which 80 percent were already been addressed demonstrating the ministry's commitment to efficient problem solving and responsiveness to the labour market needs.

 She said the government service bus (GSB) and citizen support portal platforms were created for members of the public in general and employers/ employees on particular to derive maximum benefits.





Meanwhile in interpreting the 2025 Agriculture and Commercial Show Theme Adapting to Climate Change, Ms Tambatamba noted that the theme aligned well with the Ministry's interventions of digitizing its service for its client.

 "Digitizing the ministry's services inevitably reduces the amount of the time and logistics that clients use to get to the ministry and its offices dotted across the country, “She said.

 Ms Tambatamba said the rising temperature, extreme weather and new climate related risks among others were notable threats to workers' safety.

 She said climate change shocked arising from the effected of drought and floods lead to job losses, income insecurity and displacement.

 She added that the digital intervention had also reduced the amount of paper used in delivering services consequently which has had the effect of reducing the ministry's carbon footprint.
