CEC HANDS OVER REFURBISHED LUNTEMBWE CHILDREN'S WARD AT KITWE TEACHING HOSPITAL

The Copperbelt Energy Corporation Limited (CEC) has handed over to government through the Ministry of Health the refurbished Luntembwe Children's Ward at Kitwe Teaching Hospital on the Copperbelt Province.

The power utility company renovated and painted Luntumbwe main ward and also created and equipped an eight bed capacity pediatric Intensive Care Unit-ICU at a total cost of 3 point 2 million kwacha.

Health Minister Sylvia Masebo says the donation will contribute to the provision of quality and specialized healthcare services for children.

Ms Masebo said government has also released about 10 million kwacha meant for the construction of general infrastructure and hospital road network among others.

She commended CEC for the gesture, adding that the donation could not have come at a better time when government is expanding services in all health facilities .

The Minister has urged the hospital management and staff to guard the investment jealously.

And CEC Board Chairperson London Mwafulilwa has expressed hope that the donation which is part its Corporate Social Responsibility is expected to reduce the neonatal, infant and under five mortality rates.

Mr Mwafulilwa said CEC remains focused on supporting the welfare of communities' youngest and most vulnerable groups.

He noted that the corporation believes that access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right for every child.
